Viking has announced the delivery of its latest ocean ship, the Viking Vesta. The ceremony took place at Fincantieri’s shipyard in Ancona, Italy. The Viking Vesta is classified as a small ship and features 499 staterooms to accommodate 998 guests. It will join Viking’s fleet and sail itineraries in the Mediterranean and Northern Europe during its inaugural season.
“We are proud to welcome the Viking Vesta to our fleet of elegant, small sister ships,” said Torstein Hagen, Chairman and CEO of Viking. “As we continue to expand around the world, we are pleased to offer curious travelers new options for exploring in Viking comfort.”
Viking and Fincantieri have also revealed plans for the Viking Libra, set to be the world’s first hydrogen-powered cruise ship with zero emissions. Scheduled for delivery in late 2026, it will feature a propulsion system based on liquefied hydrogen and fuel cells. Another upcoming vessel, the Viking Astrea, is also under construction with similar technology and expected by 2027.
The company remains committed to growth with plans for additional river and ocean ships by 2031. By then, they expect their fleet to include 111 river ships and 23 ocean vessels.
