Viking has announced the delivery of its newest river ship in Egypt, the Viking Amun. The ceremony took place at the Massara shipyard in Cairo.
“As we continue to expand our award-winning fleet around the world, we are delighted to welcome the Viking Amun,” said Torstein Hagen, Chairman and CEO of Viking. “These identical sister ships are the most elegant vessels on the Nile, and we are now pleased to offer even more opportunities for curious travelers to explore Egypt in Viking comfort.”
The Viking Amun is designed to host 82 guests across 41 staterooms and will operate on the company’s 12-day Pharaohs & Pyramids itinerary along the Nile River. The vessel features Scandinavian design elements similar to other ships in Viking’s fleet. It is an identical sister ship to the Viking Osiris, Viking Aton, Viking Sobek, and Viking Hathor. Other ships in Viking’s Egypt fleet include the Viking Ra and MS Antares.
Viking plans further expansion of its presence in Egypt by adding five new ships over the next two years. By 2027, this will bring their total number of vessels on the Nile River to 12.
The company has outlined a broader growth strategy with plans to take delivery of 27 additional river ships by 2028 and 10 more ocean ships by 2031. If these targets are met, Viking will have a total of 112 river ships by 2028 and 23 ocean and expedition ships by 2031.
Founded in 1997, Viking offers destination-focused journeys on rivers, oceans, and lakes globally. The company has received multiple industry awards for its services, including top rankings from Condé Nast Traveler and Travel + Leisure for both rivers and oceans travel experiences.
