U.S. Travel Association has expressed approval of the recent decision by the Department of Homeland Security to end the “shoes-off” policy at airport security checkpoints. Geoff Freeman, President and CEO of U.S. Travel, praised Secretary Kristi Noem for her role in ending what he termed an outdated policy.
“The days of removing your shoes at airport security checkpoints are finally behind us—and that’s a win for all travelers,” said Freeman. He commended Noem’s leadership in updating security policies based on risk, effectiveness, and traveler experience.
Freeman emphasized that advancements in screening technology would enhance efficiency at Transportation Security Administration (TSA) checkpoints: “Thanks to cutting-edge screening technology and strong decision-making, all travelers will now experience a more secure, seamless and efficient process.”
The U.S. Travel Association has been advocating for innovative technologies to improve travel experiences for nearly 3 million daily travelers passing through airports. The organization highlighted recommendations made by the Commission on Seamless and Secure Travel earlier this year for significant upgrades in aviation security protocols.
“We urge Congress to build on the Trump Administration’s progress by increasing funding for screening technology,” Freeman added, emphasizing preparations ahead of major upcoming events such as the 2026 FIFA World Cup and the 2028 Olympics.
U.S. Travel represents a $1.3 trillion industry crucial to the national economy and advocates for policies promoting travel within the United States.
