Erzincan’s Kemaliye Historical Town and the Late Antiquity and Middle Age Church-Monasteries in Mardin, Midyat have been added to the UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List. This addition brings the total number of Türkiye’s cultural assets on the list to 85.

The new inclusions are expected to draw attention in Erzincan and Mardin, with local authorities anticipating a rise in nature, religious, and cultural tourism in these eastern regions.

“The inclusion of these two assets into the UNESCO list causes a stir in Erzincan and Mardin cities. An increase in nature, religious and cultural tourism across this mysterious eastern region is promised,” according to the announcement.

Kemaliye Historical Town is known for its unique architecture and natural surroundings. The church-monasteries of Mardin, Midyat represent significant examples from Late Antiquity and the Middle Ages.

Türkiye continues efforts to preserve its heritage sites and promote them internationally through organizations such as UNESCO.
