After nearly three decades at the helm, Todd Davidson, CEO of Travel Oregon, has announced his retirement. This decision was jointly revealed by Davidson and the Oregon Tourism Commission. Lucinda DiNovo, Chair of the Oregon Tourism Commission, expressed gratitude for Davidson’s service, stating, “His leadership has been transformative for Oregon’s tourism industry.”
Davidson reflected on his tenure: “It’s been the honor of my life to lead Travel Oregon these past 30 years.” He noted significant growth in the state’s tourism sector during his leadership, with economic impact rising from $5 billion to $14.3 billion since 1996.
When Davidson took over as CEO in 1996, Oregon’s tourism industry employed 77,500 people. Today, that number exceeds 121,000. His efforts helped establish a funding structure that capitalized on tourism as an economic opportunity for the state.
Under Davidson’s guidance, Travel Oregon evolved into a destination stewardship organization. The agency now allocates 30% of its budget for community investments through regional programs and grants. In recent years, these funds have supported accessible experiences and contributed to projects like Dark Skies programming and wildfire recovery efforts.
Davidson also held prominent roles outside Oregon. He completed two terms as Board Chair at Brand USA and served in various capacities with national travel organizations. His contributions have earned him numerous accolades.
Fred Dixon, President and CEO of Brand USA, praised Davidson: “Todd’s strategic vision is matched only by the empathy and talent cultivation that have become his hallmarks.” Patrick Nofield from the Oregon Restaurant and Lodging Association acknowledged Davidson’s role in creating sustainable funding for tourism promotion.
The Oregon Tourism Commission will discuss the transition at their June meeting as they prepare to search for a new executive leader.
