The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) recently partnered with Universal Pictures Home Entertainment to host a global media event for the film Jurassic World: Rebirth, highlighting Thailand’s position as a key destination for international film productions. The event, held from July 30 to August 3, brought thirty international journalists, the film’s director Gareth Edwards, and several cast members—including Jonathan Bailey, Luna Blaise, David Iacono, and Audriana Miranda—to explore filming sites in Krabi, Phang-Nga, and Trang.

Activities included a welcome dinner at Trisara resort in Phuket and site visits that mirrored the “Sea, Land, and Air” themes of the movie. Attendees rappelled down cliffs at Railay Beach and explored coastal trails while producing content set against these cinematic backdrops.

The TAT stated that hosting major productions like Jurassic World: Rebirth not only enhances Thailand’s visibility but also provides significant economic benefits. The production generated over 400 million Baht in spending and created more than 2,200 jobs across southern provinces.

This initiative is part of TAT’s broader “Location Thailand” project aimed at leveraging entertainment to promote Thai destinations. With the trend of “set-jetting,” where travelers visit locations featured in films or series, such events are designed to drive immediate interest in local tourism by showcasing unique landscapes through digital media exposure.

“Thailand continues to be a sought-after destination for international productions—not just for our breathtaking cliffs, jungles, and coastlines, but because we offer a complete professional experience,” said Ms. Thapanee Kiatphaibool, TAT Governor. “With world-class crews, modern studios, streamlined permits, and genuine Thai hospitality, we’re proud to support stories that inspire real-world travel. Our collaboration with Universal Pictures Home Entertainment reflects how film and tourism can grow together, creating lasting value for our destinations and communities.”

Stephanie Lutjens of Universal Pictures Home Entertainment acknowledged the partnership during the Welcome Dinner: “It’s important to note that tonight’s spectacular activities would not be possible without the generous support of Amazing Thailand and the outstanding team at the Tourism Authority of Thailand. Their unwavering commitment to promoting Thailand’s tourism and preserving its natural beauty is truly inspiring. We are extremely grateful for their incredible partnership.”

Recent data from the Thailand Film Office shows that during the first half of 2025 there were 279 international productions filmed in Thailand with an economic impact exceeding 2.8 billion Baht. The United States led spending on these projects followed by South Korea; India accounted for the highest number of productions.

TAT continues to attract large-scale foreign projects through incentives such as cash rebates and streamlined facilitation processes. In addition to Jurassic World: Rebirth, Alien: Earth was filmed extensively in seven Thai provinces over nearly two years with a budget above 2.8 billion Baht—making it one of the largest foreign series investments in recent decades—and employing over 24,000 local crew members.

Other high-profile titles including The White Lotus Season 3 and Fast & Furious 9 have also chosen Thailand as a primary filming location.
