Thailand’s Tourism Authority (TAT) has taken steps to enhance regional tourism cooperation by hosting agencies from the Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) and Bhutan at the Thailand Travel Mart Plus (TTM+) 2025. The event, held in Chiang Mai from June 4-6, aimed to foster strategic collaboration and sustainable growth across Asia.

“Thailand is committed to becoming the region’s central tourism hub through closer cooperation with our neighbours,” stated Ms. Thapanee Kiatphaibool, TAT Governor. “By aligning our marketing and public relations efforts, we’re building stronger regional and ASEAN tourism links that support sustainable, long-term economic growth.”

The event saw participation from GMS delegates such as Ms. Nay Khyi Win Swe from Myanmar’s Consulate-General and Mr. Pea Pheap of Cambodia’s Ministry of Tourism. Bhutan was represented by Mr. Phuntsho Gyeltshen under the “Two Kingdoms, One Destination” initiative, part of a Memorandum of Understanding focused on mutual knowledge exchange and high-value travel experiences.

Over 400 buyers from 51 countries and 450 sellers attended TTM+ 2025 to promote cross-border tourism. Multi-modal travel routes were highlighted, including self-drive caravans linking Thailand with Lao PDR, Cambodia, and Vietnam; railway connections from Bangkok to Lao PDR with future plans for China; and cruise routes positioning Laem Chabang Port as a regional hub.

These initiatives align with Thailand’s “Ease of Travelling” strategy which emphasizes seamless mobility through coordinated public-private sector efforts both domestically and internationally.

Participants engaged in key Thai travel experiences under the “5 Must Do in Thailand” concept: Must Taste, Must Try, Must Buy, Must Seek, and Must See. Activities included sampling local cuisine like Khao Soi, enjoying traditional massages at Zira Spa, shopping for handicrafts, exploring historic landmarks in Chiang Mai, and experiencing local culture.

TAT anticipates these experiences will inspire participating countries to enhance their tourism offerings and strengthen regional ties within ASEAN as a premier travel destination.
