Princess Cruises announced that its second Sphere-Class ship, Star Princess, has completed sea trials and is on schedule to begin service on October 4, 2025. The ship, currently under construction by Fincantieri in Monfalcone, Italy, underwent a series of tests in the Adriatic Sea from August 9–12. These included assessments of steering, navigation systems, and propulsion.
Star Princess is the second vessel in the Princess fleet to be powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG), a move aimed at reducing emissions. The ship is equipped with two Azipod propulsion units for enhanced maneuverability and four large controllable pitch bow thrusters for precise lateral movement.
Captain Gennaro Arma led the sea trials. He commented, “We confidently led Star Princess through sea trials. As the proud leader of our newest vessel, I’m extremely impressed with the ship’s navigation capabilities and maneuverability. With the final countdown underway, my incredible teammates and I can’t wait to welcome guests aboard for unforgettable adventures this fall.”
The 177,800-ton ship will accommodate up to 4,300 guests and will feature 30 dining and bar venues along with upgraded entertainment options. Accommodations include Sanctuary Collection suites as well as mini-suites and balcony rooms offering private views. Notable features are The Dome relaxation space, The Arena theater with advanced technology, The Piazza architectural centerpiece with ocean vistas, and Spellbound by Magic Castle—a collaboration with Hollywood’s Magic Castle.
Star Princess will launch its inaugural season sailing routes in the Mediterranean, Caribbean, Panama Canal, and Alaska. More information about itineraries is available at https://www.princess.com/ships-and-experience/ships/st-star-princess.
