The Minister of Tourism, Patricia De Lille, has responded to reports about the precautionary suspension of the Chief Executive Officer of South African Tourism by its board.

Legal advice provided to the Minister indicates that the decision taken by the SA Tourism board is considered unlawful. The advice notes that as of July 31, 2025, there is no chairperson on the South African Tourism Board due to the resignation of Professor Gregory Davids. This absence means that the board is not properly constituted and therefore cannot lawfully make such a resolution.

“Minister de Lille, remains committed to ensuring the adherence to sound governance principles at South African Tourism and will address the above with the board.”

For further information, media queries can be directed to Mr. Aldrin Sampear, spokesperson in the Office of the Minister of Tourism.
