Princess Cruises has launched a new global advertising campaign, “Love Boat by Hannah,” featuring actress and singer Hannah Waddingham. Known for her role in Ted Lasso, Waddingham reintroduces the iconic theme song from the original Love Boat series, which aired from 1977 to 1986 on ABC.
The campaign, filmed in cinematic style by director Dave Laden of Hungry Man and developed by Princess Cruises’ agency Terri & Sandy, showcases Waddingham aboard a Princess cruise. The ads feature scenes of her enjoying various amenities while performing the revamped theme song.
Hannah Waddingham recorded her version of the song at Criteria Recording Studios in Miami, known for hosting artists like ABBA and Bob Marley. John Padgett, president of Princess Cruises, praised Waddingham’s contribution: “Hannah Waddingham brings something truly special to one of the most recognizable theme songs in television history and Princess Cruises brand anthem.”
Waddingham was recently named Godmother of Sun Princess, joining past godparents such as Diana, Princess of Wales. The “Love Boat by Hannah” campaign will air across multiple platforms in several countries including the U.S., U.K., Canada, and Australia.
Creative Director JP Gomez commented on Waddingham’s involvement: “From start to finish, she brought brilliance and humor to the creative process.” The ads aim to attract both experienced cruisers and those new to cruising.
