MSC Group’s Cruise Division has released its 2024 Sustainability Report, detailing progress toward its target of net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. The report, which is the sixth annual edition, includes an independently verified Energy Transition Plan that outlines steps being taken to reach this goal.
Pierfrancesco Vago, Executive Chairman of MSC Group’s Cruise Division, stated: “As a family business, we do not operate ships just for tomorrow. We sail them for future generations, designed for fuel flexibility, guided by innovation, and powered by people who share our long-term vision.
“The Cruise Division in 2024 reaffirmed its commitment to advancing a bold and transparent sustainability strategy that balances environmental stewardship, social responsibility, and economic resilience.”
The report covers achievements in environmental innovation and responsible tourism. In 2024, the combined fleets of MSC Cruises and Explora Journeys carried 4.6 million guests across 341 itineraries in 90 countries.
Looking ahead, the division plans to focus on expanding clean energy solutions and retrofitting existing vessels. There will also be continued advocacy for investments in port infrastructure and collaboration within the maritime sector to speed up the global shift to cleaner energy sources.
“There is no single solution to decarbonisation. It is a puzzle we solve piece by piece – with new technology, operational excellence, strong partnerships, and a shared commitment to move forward,” Mr Vago added.
