MSC Cruises has announced the signing of orders for two new World Class ships to be constructed by Chantiers de l’Atlantique in France. This agreement will increase the MSC Cruises fleet of World Class ships to a total of six. The new vessels, referred to as World Class 5 and 6, are scheduled for delivery in 2029 and 2030.

Pierfrancesco Vago, Executive Chairman of MSC Cruises, commented on the significance of this development: “The confirmation of the orders for the two new World Class ships marks a new milestone in our remarkable journey of shipbuilding in France and the continuation of our long-term industrial plan. This milestone underscores our commitment to building some of the highest performing ships in the world, creating a legacy of excellence and innovation in collaboration with Chantiers de l’Atlantique –our long-term partners of more than 20 years.”

Laurent Castaing, General Manager at Chantiers de l’Atlantique, expressed gratitude for MSC Cruises’ trust: “We thank MSC Cruises for their continued trust. It is the synergy of our two companies’ expertise that has led to the creation of this high-potential World Class series, meeting the challenges both in terms of passenger experience and environmental performance.”

The new ships will join others like MSC World Europa and MSC World America, along with MSC World Asia and MSC World Atlantic, which are currently under construction. These ships will enter service between 2026 and 2027.

World Class ships are known for their energy efficiency, surpassing standards set by the International Maritime Organization (IMO). They are equipped to use alternative fuels such as bio and synthetic LNG. The vessels also feature advanced dual fuel internal combustion engines designed to minimize methane slip.

Additionally, these ships will include shore power plug-in connectivity to cut carbon emissions while docked. They boast state-of-the-art wastewater treatment systems compliant with IMO standards and have enhanced waste management solutions.

Each vessel continues MSC Cruises’ tradition of blending European design with comfort through a district concept tailored for various traveler needs. However, these orders depend on securing financing as per industry norms.
