The Massachusetts Film Office (MFO), a division of the Massachusetts Office of Travel and Tourism, has launched a new website aimed at supporting film and television production throughout the state. The redesigned platform is intended to provide filmmakers and production teams with centralized resources for permitting, location scouting, incentive information, and industry contacts.
Interim Secretary of Economic Development Ashley Stolba commented on the importance of the film industry in Massachusetts. “Film is a powerful engine within Massachusetts’ creative economy,” said Stolba. “It supports good jobs, brings new revenue to communities across the state, and shines a spotlight on the people and places that make Massachusetts unique. This new site is a critical tool for continuing to grow this important sector.”
Meg Jarrett, Director of the Massachusetts Film Office, emphasized how film and television production benefit multiple industries in the state. “Film and television production supports thousands of jobs across dozens of industries in Massachusetts, from camera crews and carpenters to costume designers, caterers, and casting agents,” Jarrett said. “This new website is a strategic tool that makes it easier for productions to access the information they need, engage local talent, and choose Massachusetts over other states. It helps keep us competitive, responsive, and ready to grow.”
The updated website includes an expanded image library and centralized guidance on permitting processes. Its mobile-friendly design aims to make it more accessible for producers and location managers. Additionally, the site highlights details about the state’s Film Production Incentive Program—a program credited with attracting numerous major film and television projects to Massachusetts. More information about this program can be found at https://mafilm.org/.
Kate Fox, Executive Director of the Massachusetts Office of Travel and Tourism, noted how films set in Massachusetts contribute to tourism by inspiring viewers to visit featured locations. “Seeing Massachusetts on screen often sparks the desire to experience it in person,” Fox said. “Whether it’s the fall streets of Salem in Hocus Pocus, the Boston Public Garden bench from Good Will Hunting, or coastal drama from The Perfect Couple, film and television help shape the way the world imagines our state and inspires visitors to explore it for themselves.”
Recent productions filmed in Massachusetts include Manchester by the Sea, CODA, Little Women, The Holdovers, Marvel’s Madame Web, and Netflix’s The Perfect Couple.

The MFO continues its mission as part of efforts by the broader travel office to promote economic growth through leisure and business travel as well as media exposure for destinations across Massachusetts.
