Marriott reports progress on sustainability goals and community impact for 2024

Marriott International has released its 2025 Serve 360 Report, which details the company’s sustainability and community initiatives for 2024. The report outlines several achievements made by Marriott associates and properties worldwide.

According to the report, Marriott exceeded its global volunteerism goal by more than 600,000 hours ahead of schedule. From 2016 to 2024, associates contributed over 15.6 million hours of service. The company also reported involvement in more than 6,000 biodiversity-related activities aimed at protecting and restoring local ecosystems.

As part of its sustainability efforts, Marriott stated that by the end of 2024, 15% of hotels in the Marriott Bonvoy portfolio had received certification under recognized sustainability standards. The company also noted a reduction in waste sent to landfills by about 23%, and a decrease in food waste sent to landfills by about 29% compared to levels measured in 2019.

The report highlights that since 2016, more than 1.4 million associates across managed and franchised properties have completed training on human trafficking awareness.

In terms of charitable contributions during 2024, Marriott and its partners provided nearly $52 million to support communities and philanthropic causes. This included almost $27 million through in-kind donations and over $25 million as cash contributions.

The Marriott Disaster Relief Fund distributed more than $2.6 million in aid last year, supporting over 4,000 associates as well as humanitarian organizations responding to global disasters.
