Illinois is gearing up for the 100th anniversary of Route 66 with a range of new attractions, experiences, and events to honor the iconic highway. The state is preparing to celebrate this milestone with various activities that reflect both the legacy and future of Route 66.

Cory Jobe, Chair of the Illinois Route 66 Centennial Commission, stated, “As we approach Route 66’s 100th anniversary, Illinois is proud to celebrate the legacy of the Mother Road with new experiences for today’s travelers.” He highlighted restored icons and interactive exhibits as key elements in rediscovering the magic of this historic route.

Along The First Hundred Miles, photo opportunities abound at sites such as Old Joliet Prison and various neon signs and murals in several towns including Berwyn and Wilmington. A newly restored stretch of original pavement near Springfield offers a glimpse into history.
