IHG Hotels & Resorts has announced a new agreement with Taisei Yuraku Real Estate Co Ltd and Pacifica Hotels G.K. to open a 103-room hotel under its Garner brand in Kyoto, Japan. The Garner Hotel Kyoto Shijo Karasuma will be the fourth Garner hotel in Japan and is set to join the IHG system in November 2025 after undergoing renovations.
The hotel will be located in the upscale area of Shijo Karasuma, offering more options for travelers in this popular destination. Abhijay Sandilya, Managing Director of Japan & Micronesia at IHG Hotels & Resorts, stated: “Expanding the Garner brand into Kyoto in partnership with Taisei Yuraku Real Estate Co Ltd and Pacifica Hotels G.K. is another milestone, for our fast-growing mainstream conversion brand, since welcoming the brand to Japan six months ago.”
Takeshi Uekusa from Taisei Yuraku Real Estate Co Ltd expressed enthusiasm about bringing the first Garner hotel to Kyoto, highlighting the increased choice it offers to both domestic and international travelers. He noted that providing an international brand designed for quality stays at an affordable price would enhance guest experiences.
Seth Sulkin of Pacifica Hotels G.K emphasized their ongoing relationship with IHG and looked forward to contributing to the expansion of the Garner brand in Japan’s midscale category.
The hotel’s location offers convenient access to local attractions such as Nishiki Market and Kyoto Imperial Palace. With its opening later in 2025, IHG’s presence in Kyoto will include four hotels: Six Senses Kyoto, ANA Crowne Plaza Kyoto, Holiday Inn Kyoto Gojo, and an upcoming Regent Kyoto slated for 2028.
Currently, IHG operates 54 hotels across ten brands in Japan with plans for further expansion.
