Hyatt Hotels Corporation has announced the opening of Secrets Playa Esmeralda Resort & Spa, an adults-only, all-inclusive property in the Miches region of the Dominican Republic. The resort is part of Hyatt’s Inclusive Collection and aims to expand the company’s presence in the country.

The new resort is located along Playa Esmeralda, a less-developed area where rainforest meets beach. According to Angel Medina, general manager of Secrets Playa Esmeralda Resort & Spa, “We’ve created Secrets Playa Esmeralda Resort & Spa to be more than an indulgent escape – it’s a celebration of romance, wellbeing, and the unique spirit of Playa Esmeralda. Every detail, from the design of our suites to textures, colors, and curated experiences throughout the property, is inspired by the richness of this region. We look forward to welcoming guests to experience this extraordinary destination and our unwavering commitment to exceptional service.”

Secrets Playa Esmeralda Resort & Spa offers 500 suites with private terraces or balconies. Many rooms feature ocean views or swim-out access. Guests have access to amenities such as 24-hour room service and entertainment options designed for adult travelers. Preferred Club accommodations provide added benefits including exclusive pools and beach areas as well as butler service.

Dining at the resort includes eleven restaurants and seven bars under Executive Chef Carlos Quijano. The signature restaurant Doña Altagracia highlights local cuisine with dishes like risotto featuring Dominican stewed goat and mofongo.

The wellness program centers on Secrets Spa led by Jenny Castillo. The spa offers treatments that use locally sourced ingredients such as coconut powder and aloe vera. Facilities include a hydrotherapy circuit, sauna, whirlpool, cold plunge pool, bridal suite, and Master Spa Cabin for private services.

Recreational activities at the resort include tennis courts, beach volleyball courts, water sports like kayaking and snorkeling, fitness classes including aerobics and dance lessons, Spanish classes, and introductory scuba diving lessons in the pool.

Guests can also explore eco-tourism opportunities in Miches such as visiting Montaña Redonda for panoramic views on a mountaintop swing or kayaking through mangroves in Los Haitises National Park. Other excursions include hiking to Salto La Jalda waterfall or seasonal whale watching in Bahía de Samaná.

In partnership with Promiches—a group focused on sustainable development—and aligned with Hyatt’s World of Care platform (https://about.hyatt.com/en/world-of-care.html), a protected sea turtle nest has been installed on site due to Playa Esmeralda’s importance as a nesting ground for sea turtles.

The property features over 15,000 square feet of event space suitable for weddings or business meetings. There are three wedding venues including a beachfront gazebo; business groups have access to eleven meeting spaces including a ballroom that seats up to 1,440 guests theater-style.

A central Public Square shared with Dreams Playa Esmeralda Resort & Spa serves as a social hub offering dining options and entertainment for both properties’ guests. When Dreams Playa Esmeralda opens on September 1, 2025—targeting families—it will add another 500 suites plus family-friendly amenities such as a waterpark and clubs for children and teens.

World of Hyatt members can earn bonus points when staying at Secrets Playa Esmeralda Resort & Spa under its New Hotels Bonus Offer (https://world.hyatt.com/content/gp/en/offers/new-hotels.html).
