Holland America Line has announced its support for the relocation of Eland, a bull moose, to the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center (AWCC). The move is part of the cruise line’s ongoing involvement in wildlife and conservation efforts in Alaska.
Eland was given a new home at AWCC after his previous facility closed. Holland America Line contributed to making this transition possible. According to the company, Eland now benefits from expert care and a spacious environment at his new location.
The moose was named “Eland”—the Dutch word for “moose”—following an online vote by Holland America Line’s social media followers. The naming campaign saw thousands participate and reflects both the company’s heritage and guest interest in Alaskan wildlife.
“We’re incredibly proud to play a role in bringing Eland to his new home at the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center,” said Kacy Cole, chief marketing officer for Holland America Line. “His arrival represents more than just a relocation—it’s a reflection of our long-standing commitment to Alaska and its wildlife. Eland’s story gives our guests and fans a unique opportunity to connect with the region in a personal and meaningful way. Supporting AWCC’s conservation efforts and helping provide a safe, enriching environment for animals like Eland is something we’re deeply honored to be part of.”
The cruise line also continues to support AWCC through several onboard initiatives. Passengers on Alaskan cruises can purchase Harry & David’s Moose Munch Premium Popcorn, with 3% of net sales going to AWCC. Additionally, two exclusive cocktails contribute $1 per drink sold toward the center, while sales of plush moose toys generate $2 per item for AWCC programs.
