When The George Hotel opened in 2024 on the former site of the Georgetown Times, it marked a significant moment for Georgetown, South Carolina. This development brought a hotel back to Front Street for the first time since The Gladstone was demolished in 1967.

The George offers modern boutique accommodations that blend contemporary comfort with elements of Georgetown’s maritime history. It adds to the appeal of visiting South Carolina’s third oldest city and its vibrant Hammock Coast.

Located at 615 Front Street, The George is near Winyah Bay and close to Harborwalk Marina and Georgetown’s shopping district. Guests can park in an adjacent lot or on the street, or arrive by boat and reserve a slip at the marina.

Developed by Winyah Hospitality and operated by Indigo Road Hospitality Group, The George features 56 guestrooms and suites, an on-site restaurant named The Independent, a bar called Eliza’s, and private event space. An outdoor area with a bar and firepit is available for events like weddings.

The hotel’s design integrates with the historic architecture of Georgetown’s shopping district. Interiors feature vintage fabrics, mural wallpaper, European accents, local artwork, and maritime themes.

Of the 56 rooms available at The George, 42 offer views of Winyah Bay. Rooms include amenities such as custom-crafted mattresses, Bellino linens and towels, Malin & Goetz bath products, clothes steamers, coffee stations with gourmet teas—all designed for relaxation.

Dining options include seafood dishes and Southern-inspired cuisine at The Independent restaurant. Reservations are recommended for dinner and weekend brunches. Eliza’s dockside bar offers cocktails and snacks when weather permits.

Guests can enhance their stay with add-ons like wine upon check-in or packages including golf or dinner arrangements.
