A new attraction inspired by Walt Disney Animation Studios is set to open at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in 2026. The upcoming experience, titled “The Magic of Disney Animation,” will be located in the building currently housing Star Wars: Launch Bay. The design draws from the animation studio in Burbank, California, and the short film “Once Upon a Studio.” Visitors will encounter a setting where Disney characters come alive after animators have left for the day.

The updated area will feature several interactive spaces. In the Production Gallery, guests can see portraits come to life as depicted in “Once Upon a Studio.” A Screening Theater will show a family-friendly short film. There will also be opportunities for visitors to learn how to draw popular characters and meet them in person.

For families with young children, an indoor playground called “Drawn to Wonderland” is planned. This space is inspired by Mary Blair’s concept art for “Alice in Wonderland” and includes an oversized flower garden with musical instruments, a Mad Tea Party playset, and an exploration area themed after Tulgey Wood.

Outside the main building, Animation Courtyard will be redesigned as “The Walt Disney Studios,” providing shaded seating areas and playful landscaping for relaxation and informal activities.

Disney animators are working closely with Imagineers on this project. Trent Correy, director of “Once Upon a Studio,” said, “Our film came from the heart and from a desire of all the Disney Animation artists wanting to celebrate our artistic accomplishments and a passion for the studio’s legacy.” Dan Abraham, co-director of the film, added, “Working on this film was the highlight of my career – the most fun I’ve ever had. And now, to collaborate with the wonderful talents at Walt Disney Imagineering to bring the short and our studio to guests in this exciting way is beyond our wildest dreams.”

Several existing buildings’ exteriors will be updated with architectural elements reflecting those found in Burbank. To facilitate these changes, Animation Courtyard, Star Wars: Launch Bay and Disney Jr. Play and Dance! will close starting September 25, 2025. Attractions such as “The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure” and Walt Disney Presents will remain open during renovations.

Further information about new features and experiences planned for this area is expected to be announced later.
