Delta Air Lines has launched its first-ever Route Race, allowing SkyMiles Members and Delta employees to vote on the airline’s next European destination for summer 2026. Voting is open from August 25 through August 29.

The initiative gives customers and staff a role in determining the airline’s network expansion. According to Paul Baldoni, Senior Vice President of Network Planning, “SkyMiles Members and Delta people are at the center of everything Delta does. The Route Race is a celebration of their influence, giving our community a voice in where they want to fly next and inviting them to help shape Delta’s global network. The destinations where Delta flies are more than just dots on a map – they’re gateways to culture, connection and possibility, and this is a chance for our Members and employees to bring one of them closer.”

To participate, SkyMiles Members can vote using the Delta app by navigating to the Explore and Trip pages, confirming their credentials, and submitting their choice. Each destination is represented by a Delta jet within the app interface. Results will be announced about 30 days after voting closes.

Three Mediterranean destinations are under consideration: Malta, Ibiza (Spain), and Sardinia (Italy). Malta offers historic sites such as megalithic temples older than Egypt’s pyramids or Stonehenge. Ibiza is known for its nightlife with venues featuring world-famous DJs as well as scenic beaches. Sardinia stands out as one of five official “Blue Zones,” regions noted for residents’ longevity attributed to lifestyle and diet.

Delta continues expanding its global reach after operating its largest transatlantic schedule this summer, which included its first nonstop flight to Sicily.

The airline also recently updated its Route Map tool online, making it easier for customers to discover destinations based on interests like hiking or food, travel duration, or number of stops.

SkyMiles Membership offers members opportunities beyond earning miles or exclusive benefits; now members have input into future routes as part of shaping the company’s offerings.
