Choice Hotels International, Inc. has acquired the remaining 50% stake in Choice Hotels Canada from InnVest Hotels, moving from a master franchising model to a direct franchising approach in the Canadian market. The transaction, valued at about $112 million, was completed in July 2025 and funded through available cash and the company’s existing credit facility.

The acquisition marks a new phase for Choice Hotels in Canada, where it has operated since 1955. With this move, the company plans to expand its offerings from eight hotel brands to all 22 brands in its portfolio. As of June 30, 2025, Choice Hotels’ Canadian operations included 350 hotels and 30,000 rooms, with more than 2,500 additional rooms in development. These include properties such as the first Cambria Hotel in Canada and several Radisson, Comfort, Quality, and Ascend Collection hotels.

Patrick Pacious, President & CEO of Choice Hotels International, said: “This milestone reflects our confidence in the Canadian market and the exceptional capabilities and legacy of success of our local team. By consolidating operations in Canada and expanding Choice Hotels Canada’s owner success system from the current 8 hotel brands to our full portfolio of 22 brands, we are opening doors to remarkable opportunities for our franchisees and guests, while paving the way for accelerated growth across Canada.”

Management expects that Choice Hotels Canada will generate about $23 million in fee revenue and $18 million in EBITDA for full-year 2025.

Brian Leon will continue as CEO of Choice Hotels Canada. InnVest Hotels remains a key partner as the largest franchisee of Choice Hotels in Canada and operates 50 Comfort hotels nationwide.

Brian Leon commented: “This is an exciting moment for Choice Hotels Canada and our franchisees. With the full backing of Choice Hotels International, we are well-positioned to deliver even greater value to our franchisees and guests as we write the next chapter of our success story.”

Canada’s hospitality sector is expected to grow at an average annual rate above 5% through 2030 with total market size projected to exceed $50 billion. This expansion comes as part of broader international growth by Choice Hotels International. In Q2 2025 alone, its net international rooms portfolio grew by 5% year-over-year due to a rise in new openings. The company has also extended its partnership with Atlantica Hospitality International in Brazil for over 10,000 rooms over two decades; nearly tripled its room count in France through an agreement with Zenitude Hotel-Residences; and signed deals with SSAW Hotels & Resorts in China that are expected to add almost 20,000 rooms over five years.

Choice Hotels International operates nearly 7,500 hotels representing about 650,000 rooms across 46 countries and territories.
