The Central Florida Zoo & Botanical Gardens is marking its 50th anniversary with a celebration scheduled for July 4-6. This event commemorates the zoo’s five decades of conservation and education efforts since it first opened on July 4, 1975.
CEO Richard E. Glover, Jr. acknowledged the contributions that have helped the zoo reach this milestone. “The Zoo has come a long way since opening our gates on July 4, 1975, with the help of passionate citizens, Seminole County’s donation of a low-cost, long-term lease of 106 acres, and visionary leadership from the Zoo’s first director, Jack Hanna,” he said. He further noted that this kickoff celebration serves as an expression of gratitude to the community.
As part of the festivities, visitors can explore a new historical gallery located in the Wayne Densch building. This limited-time exhibit will showcase photos and milestones documenting the zoo’s evolution into one of Seminole’s major attractions.
To honor its founding year, ticket prices during the event will reflect those from its inaugural year: $19.75 for adults and seniors and $16.75 for children.
The zoo is also inviting past visitors to share their memories by submitting photos or videos from visits during earlier decades to be included in the historical gallery display.
