Hilton has announced the opening of Canopy by Hilton Cape Town Longkloof, marking the brand’s first entry into the South African market. The hotel is located in Longkloof, a historic district that has recently been revitalized with new shopping centers, office spaces, and a tech start-up hub. This 154-room property features Ongetem, a signature restaurant and bar led by renowned South African chef Bertus Basson.
Jenna Hackett, Senior Vice President of Global Category Leader for Lifestyle Brand Management at Hilton, stated: “Introducing Canopy to South Africa is a meaningful step for our brand. Cape Town’s vibrant culture, creative energy and culinary richness align beautifully with our commitment to offering locally inspired stays.”
The hotel’s location offers guests easy access to several attractions including Table Mountain and Camps Bay beaches. It is situated just 10 minutes from both Cape Town International Convention Centre and the city center.
Ongetem brings bold local flavors with a modern twist to Cape Town’s dining scene. Chef Bertus Basson’s menu is based on the philosophy of “Butcher, Baker, Cocktail Maker” and features dishes like flame-grilled meats and fresh pastries along with handcrafted cocktails.
Guy Hutchinson, President of Middle East & Africa at Hilton commented: “Hilton has enjoyed a presence in South Africa for more than three decades, and this new opening represents a significant milestone for us in a country where we continue to see great opportunity.”
The hotel’s design incorporates elements from the 112-year-old Longkloof neighborhood with its red brick façade preserved as part of its historical charm. Inside, rooms are modern with artisan-crafted furnishings and art from local artists.
Canopy Cape Town joins Hilton’s seven existing hotels in South Africa and is part of Hilton Honors loyalty program which offers various benefits for members booking directly through Hilton channels.
