Bangkok has been named the world’s best city for Generation Z in Time Out’s 2025 global ranking. The annual survey, published on August 13, 2025, gathered responses from more than 18,000 city-dwellers and focused this year on individuals under the age of 30. Bangkok received a City Score of 66% among Gen Z residents, placing it ahead of other major cities worldwide.

The ranking highlights several factors contributing to Bangkok’s top position. According to Time Out, 84% of Gen Z residents in the city reported happiness with their lives there. Affordability was also cited as a significant advantage, with 71% saying they found the city affordable—a notable consideration amid ongoing economic challenges faced by young people globally. Additionally, Bangkok ranked highest for ease of making new friends, reinforcing its image as a social and welcoming environment.

“This recognition reflects not only Bangkok’s global appeal, but also the strength of Thai culture in creating an environment where young people can thrive,” said Ms. Thapanee Kiatphaibool, Governor of the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT). “We are proud that Gen Z voices from around the world have recognised Bangkok as the best city to live, connect and grow. It highlights the balance we’ve built between modern innovation and authentic local experience.”

Time Out’s first ranking aimed specifically at Gen Z signals a change in how cities are assessed for younger generations who value work-life balance, creativity, community connections and quality of life. Other cities included in the top ten were Melbourne, Cape Town, New York and London.
